For over 70 years, the land the hotel now sits on was used as a Naval Air Base complete with runways. The air base primarily operated seaplanes on nearby Lake Michigan. The former air base has now been redeveloped into a residential subdivision and commercial area called The Glen. The control still remains and has been preserved as a historic building.
On September 30, 1995, the Glenview Naval Air Base was closed. In March 1999, The Village Board approved a contract with Kemper Sports Management to build a world-class, championship 18-hole golf course surrounded by a residential community. The hotel was opened in July 2001. Twenty-one unique overnight accommodations were available at the area's most prestigious golf course.
