The Bogotá Plaza Summit Hotel opened its doors on April 7, 1978, in a five-floor building that included 12 suites, 8 classic rooms, Le Pavillion Restaurant, and a bar. It was built as a response to the need of Barraquer Ophthalmology Clinic’s foreign patients in northern Bogotá.
The hotel’s group of investors noticed the importance of being the first hotel to open lodging services in the north of the city; therefore, in 1981 - 1983, they built 115 additional rooms, La Marquesina Restaurant, a coffee shop, and Atrium Restaurant & Bar.
Thanks to the great market acceptance and goodwill of the hotel’s name, in October 1996, shareholders decided to open a third building with a new convention room for up to 400 people and 64 additional guestrooms. Later, the hotel completed its infrastructure with 13 meeting rooms and spacious additional services such as the Bogotá Plaza Vista Club Gym & Spa, the Lobby Bar Café, and the business center.
In order to position the hotel in the international market, in 1996 it became a member of Summit Hotels & Resorts, being the only hotel in Colombia representing the brand.
